At La Gaudane, Le Logis du Maître is the largest holiday home, taking you back to its 19th-century origins, when the embroidery factory, La Fabrique, was built, shaping Cordes’ history for some 50 years. A complete change of scene: a lounge not quite fit for the Duchesse de Guermantes but sure to have pleased Madame Verdurin (Proust, “In Search of Lost Time”), a surprising kitchen-dining room and bedrooms partly from another era. Around 300 m² in all, reached by an unusual, light-filled staircase adorned with art. All honours La Fabrique’s past in the working-class Fourmiguier district, where some 100 workers arrived each morning to operate around 26 embroidery machines. Another asset: at certain times, the building hosts groups of up to 26 friends or relatives.

When split between 2 or 3 rental parties, everyone can enjoy the pool, pétanque court (boules provided), games and fitness room (2 table tennis tables, a pool table and fitness equipment)—facilities not guaranteed even in a 300 m² home. Lively Cordes-sur-Ciel offers abundant year-round activities for locals, also open to visitors. Another benefit: the owner lives on site in separate, self-contained quarters, remaining out of sight yet available for questions or problems. Finally, the garden, more countryside than Le Nôtre, is full of fruit.

With cupboards overflowing with jam jars, guests have an “open bar” when apples, figs, cherries, pears, plums, walnuts, blackberries or dandelions are in season.
